Quality and safety requirements
at every step of the process
Putting it all together
To meet consumer demands for quality and performance, the BIC Group has developed high technology manufacturing equipment and processes. Since 1972, this has allowed BIC to manufacture lighters in great quantity, while maintaining strict quality controls.
All BIC® pocket lighters meet or exceed ISO 9994 safety standard specifications.
Putting it all together
In the Making
WORLDWIDE QUALITY CONTROL
At each plant, qualified and trained BIC employees dedicate more than 25% of their time monitoring quality. In addition, quality assurance inspectors evaluate packaged lighters daily to ensure BIC's high quality and safety standards. All BIC® lighters are produced around the world with the same rigorous, highly effective quality control systems.
HIGHEST QUALITY RAW MATERIALS
We use the highest quality raw materials available for the lighter body and components to ensure that our lighters meet or exceed all international safety standards for performance, quality, strength and durability.
ACCURACY CONTROLS
We use sophisticated digital camera equipment to measure flame height and other characteristics precisely and reject any product that does not conform.
QUALITY AND SAFETY
Quality and safety are built into every step of the lighter production process. Before leaving the factory, each BIC® lighter undergoes more than 50 separate, automatic quality checks during the manufacturing process.
BIC'S SAFETY STANDARDS GO BEYOND LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
International Standards have been established to ensure worldwide consumer safety. The most common is ISO 9994. It defines safety specifications of a lighter, including maximum flame height, resistance to elevated temperature, resistance to dropping, resistance to continuous burning flame, flame extinction, etc. All BIC® lighters meet or exceed ISO 9994 safety standard specifications. To assure both consumers and distributors of BIC’s quality and safety, BIC Group has developed its own standards, which meet or exceed the standards established by the International Standards Organization (ISO 9994) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM F-400). The BIC Group also uses accredited, independent outside laboratories to verify compliance with these requirements.
CHILD RESISTANT STANDARD
A child-resistant lighter is a lighter that has been purposely modified in order to make it more difficult to operate. In some countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New-Zealand, Japan and European Union, a child-resistant safety standard is mandatory. All BIC® lighters sold in these countries are child resistant.
