Precision manufacturing process
Putting it all together
at every step
Since 1975, BIC has manufactured all of its shavers at BIC production facilities. The Company can thus ensure quality throughout each step of the process.
To manufacture a blade meeting BIC's high quality standards, 12 operations are necessary and 23 quality checks are performed.
These processes apply to the manufacturing of a various range of men's and women's shavers.
Putting it all together
In the Making - Images
Worldwide, all BIC® shaver production sites use the same manufacturing processes and quality control methods. Much of the manufacturing equipment is designed and developed internally by BIC to guarantee product conformity. BIC's Quality Department, which regularly audits products manufactured throughout the world, ensures that the same high quality and safety standards are applied consistently in each location.
PRECISION TECHNOLOGY FOR THE BLADE
The blade, in the form of a continuous strip, is first perforated. The steel strip goes through a hardening process and is ground to a razor thin edge. First surface treatment: chromium coating is applied to the blade. Second surface treatment: a poly tetra fluoro ethylene (PTFE) coating is deposited onto the blade to enhance its performance. The edge of a BIC® blade is 2000 times thinner than a human hair!
MOLDING PLASTIC PARTS
Handle, guard, cover and blade protector: Colors and plastic materials are blended together and injection molded to high precision and accuracy. State-of-the-art equipment is used in the molding, cooling and ejection of the parts. The handle is manufactured with a co-injection process that enables the combination of a rigid, safe handle in one material with the grip properties of another material.
The shaver's head is made up of two plastic components, three blades and two spacers between them, which are all automatically assembled with very high precision and under stringent automated inspection. The head is assembled onto the handle and then the blade protector is placed onto the head.
The blade, molded component parts and finished product are all visually and dimensionally checked throughout the entire manufacturing process.
PACKAGING AND LEAVING THE FACTORY
The shavers are automatically packaged in the various package sizes. Packaging is optimized to use the minimum necessary raw material while guaranteeing protection of the shavers. BIC’s total quality commitment extends to all aspects of its business including packaging, logistics and sales, giving retailers and distributors a world-renowned brand name they can deliver with confidence to consumers.
