Measuring environmental performance in manufacturing and transportation

Optimized transport operations

BIC partners with customers and freight agents to optimize transport operations. BIC measures the GHG emissions for its logistics chain, through carbon footprint assessments. Findings revealed that air transportation operations accounted for 37% of emissions, but only 1% of the flows.

On road, global or local strategies for environmental improvement on road transport involves reducing the number of kilometers for empty transportation runs, closing the loop between factory, warehousing and customer shipping hubs, pooling resources with other industry and using double-decker trucks.

In 2008, the GHG emissions for transport operations declined by more than 5%.
