REDE NAMI: AFROGRAFITEIRAS

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

NGO Name: Rede Nami

Pillar: Access to education for girls and women

Location: Brazil

Funding Period: 2020-2021

THE CHALLENGE

According to the 2019 Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, 61% of the country's femicide victims were women of color. Starting as far back as the era of slavery and continuing to the present day, women of color have been and remain the focus of social, racial and gender inequality. With this in mind, Rede Nami created the AfroGrafiteiras project to promote cultural transformation through art, support for these women and efforts for racial and gender equality.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project aims to reduce violence against and murder of women by educating afro-Brazilian women. Participants engage in a six-month leadership training program focused on personal development through urban art, expressing themselves through murals painted in their neighborhoods.

In addition, classes are divided into five themes: women's history, Black history, self care, sexual and reproductive rights and domestic violence prevention.
